The article states that:

The French West India Company (French: Compagnie française des Indes occidentales) was a French trading company founded in 1664 by Jean-Baptiste Colbert and dissolved in 1674. The company received the French possessions of the Atlantic coasts of Africa and America, and the monopoly on trade with America for forty years ...

If the company only existed for 10 years, how could it have had a monopoly for 40 years? Am I missing something here? Xwejnusgozo (talk) 19:58, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

After reading the French Wikipedia article, I realized what was meant. I edited the article a bit so it is now as follows:
The French West India Company (French: Compagnie française des Indes occidentales) was a French trading company founded in 1664 by Jean-Baptiste Colbert and dissolved in 1674. The company received the French possessions of the Atlantic coasts of Africa and America, and was granted a monopoly on trade with America, which was to last for forty years ...
Hopefully it's a bit clearer now. Xwejnusgozo (talk) 20:02, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
