Alfonso Cuaron's Oscar-winning drama is a masterpiece. The ultra-personal film stars Yalitzia Aparicio as Cleo, a live-in nanny and housekeeper in Mexico City in the 1970s, a time of profound change. As protests rage around the house, Cleo battles her own inner demons, as well as the realities of domestic work. A moving portrait of racial and economic disparities, *Roma* is perhaps the best film of 2018. Stream it now on Netflix.

Adrien Brody in The Pianist — ***The Pianist***

Roman Polanski's 2002 Best Picture nominee tells the story of real-life Holocaust survivor Władysław Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Jewish pianist living in Warsaw, Poland when the Nazi regime took over the country. While Szpilman eventually escapes, his journey is far from over, as he's forced to grapple with the atrocities of the Holocaust for years to come.
