Income Tax Preparation

If you are unable to prepare your income tax and benefit return yourself, the Town of Banff Family and Community Support Services may be able to help you. Community organization volunteers assist eligible Banff taxpayers who have low income and simple tax situations.

Eligibility Criteria

These suggested maximum income levels should serve as a guideline only.

Family income

  • Single person up to $ 42,921.84
  • Couple up to $ 53,436.24
  • Family of 3 up to $ 65,693.16 
  • Family of 4 up to $ 79,759.68
  • Family of 5 up to $ 90,462.84 

Income taxpayers who are eligible for assistance with preparing tax returns for simple situations such as:

  • Low-income individuals and social assistance recipients
  • Seniors
  • Students

If you fit in to the income levels list above and have a simple tax return please complete the application form

Once you have filed your income tax you may be eligible for the Banff Access Card Program.  Learn more at banff.ca/access

Tax returns not eligible for this program are complex situations such as:

  • Returns for deceased persons
  • Individuals who file for bankruptcy
  • Self-employed individuals
  • Individuals who report capital gains or losses
  • Individuals who report employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses.

Volunteer

Lend your expertise and become a volunteer for the income tax preparation program.  Volunteers are always being recruited to help file returns for members of the community requiring assistance.  Volunteers for the income tax program receive instruction from Canada Revenue Agency trainers.  The program provides special attention to preparing basic returns for eligible seniors, service industry workers and persons with disabilities.  To learn more or to get involved, email the Senior Support Coordinator or call 403.762.1253.
