Building Permits
You must obtain a permit before you begin your project. In most cases, both a development permit and building permit are required. In some cases, only a building permit is required. To confirm whether your project requires a building permit, please contact the Planning and Development department.

Development Permits
To construct a new building, renovate an existing building or change the use (or intensity of use) of a property, you need a development permit.

Film Permits
With the exception of news media, any person or company wishing to access Town of Banff municipal property (including all public property) for the purposes of commercial photography, video, film and television—including documentaries—must obtain a film permit from the Town of Banff.

Pet Licenses
Annual pet licenses are required for dogs and cats in Banff.

Sidewalk Seating Permits
Sidewalk seating provides animation, vibrancy and – when designed appropriately – contributes to positive visitor experiences in Banff.

Special Event Permits
The Town of Banff hosts a number of events throughout the year, everything from large scale destination events to small community gatherings. Depending on the scale of event you're planning to hold in town, you may be required to fill out certain forms prior to approval.

Submit your application with a minimum of two business days prior to project start date for review.
