World Female Ranger Week amplifies the voices of female rangers around the world to support their impactful work; Protecting wildlife, empowering women, and uplifting communities. From protecting endangered species to leading community conservation projects, female rangers are achieving remarkable milestones every day. Their hard work and dedication are transforming the landscape of wildlife protection and inspiring future generations as they face off with poachers and wild animals in the line of duty. A predominantly male-dominated profession, less than 11% of the World's rangers are women, and it is women like BCP's own Conservation Coordinator, Mutale Mwila, who are breaking these traditional beliefs and paving the way for female rangers in Africa. As part of her role, Mutale works with BCP-supported Community Scouts, and she knew that to work with the Scouts she needed to understand exactly what it is like to work in resource protection on the ground. Here's what Mutale has to say, "Four years ago, I made a bold decision that forever changed my life: I committed to Ranger training. Today, as we celebrate World Female Ranger Week, I reflect on the incredible journey it has been. Choosing to become a Ranger wasn't just about a career path; it was a deeply personal decision to challenge myself, break barriers, and contribute meaningfully to conservation efforts. Over the years, I've faced challenges, learned invaluable skills, gained respect, and forged bonds with fellow Rangers that are rooted in shared passion and purpose. This journey has taught me resilience, courage, and the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. As a woman in this field, I'm proud to stand alongside inspiring female Rangers worldwide who are breaking stereotypes and making a significant impact in conservation and community empowerment. To all aspiring Rangers, especially women considering this path: Embrace the challenge, trust in your abilities, and know that your voice and contribution are invaluable in protecting our planet's biodiversity. Together, we can create a future where nature thrives and future generations can enjoy our planet's beauty. Here's to celebrating the spirit of adventure, conservation, and empowerment this World Female Ranger Week". Thank you Mutale for sharing your story with us! BCP currently supports 65 Community Scouts, 34% of whom are women, in the Luangwa to Lower Zambezi Valley in carrying out vital resource protection efforts to conserve Zambia's wild spaces. #worldfemalerangersweek #femalerangers #womeninconservation #femalescouts #communityscouts #biodiversity #resourceprotection #conservation #zambia #africa #genderbarriers #genderequality

#CarbonCreditsWork to solve climate change and provide food security and a sustainable future for some of Zambia’s most nutrition insecure families. “I have lived here for the past 23 years, and we based our farming on the knowledge of our parents, passed down to us. The way that they and then, how we would plough was done by gathering shrubs and burning them. When the rain came after burning we would plant our seeds. But we found that the yield was just not good enough, with very little grain produced; only managing to harvest about five buckets of grain from one hectare. We have always been faced with hunger as a result, even after my parents passed away. But since I joined the BCP Lead Farmer program and we learned how to apply the methods of climate-smart agriculture to our farming, I am able to harvest 30 sacks of grain from just one hectare. Which means there is no hunger in my household. When times were tough, in my parent’s time we would be starving, we would not know when next we could eat, the children were not able to go to school - But now they are able. We can have breakfast, lunch and supper and even afford luxuries like soft drinks. As a BCP (BioCarbon Partners) Lead Farmer I have 25 Follower farmers, who I have taught the modern and conservation way of farming. At first they even thought my yields might be from witchcraft from how abnormal my high yields seemed in comparison to the traditional methods we used, but I asked them to follow me and how I farmed, and now they no longer suffer from hunger either.” ~ Veronica Banda. World Environment Day is a reminder that climate change and its impacts continue to affect us all. We must continue to find sustainable ways to live, work, and adapt in order to reduce biodiversity loss, deforestation, and degradation, and protect our planet for future generations to come. In the midst of a devastating drought, and following the worst cholera outbreak the country has seen in recent years, the theme this year, Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience hits home harder than ever in Zambia. In Africa, 65% of land is impacted by degradation – meaning it has lost vast stretches of natural productivity. However, what remains still holds environmental and economic value. Protecting, reviving, and restoring these ecosystems is crucial in the battle against climate change here in the Global South. This World Environment Day BCP celebrates those who are making a difference, over 230,000 people across 17 Chiefdoms in Zambia, together with the Zambian Forestry Department, Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia, and Department of National Parks and Wildlife are helping to conserve, protect and restore over 1.2 million hectares of vital forests. Home to endangered and threatened species such as the African Wild Dog, Temminck’s  Pangolin, African Elephant, Lion, and Leopard. Investing in our forests is an investment in a sustainable future for all. #Worldenvironmentday #WED #WED24 #carboncredits #carboncreditswork #Carbonoffsets #REDD #climatefinance #carbonfootprint #carbonfinance #biodiversityloss #endangeredspecies #conservation #zambia
