Recently Tebogo Matlawa (Head of Department: Scripted Content – Middle and Mass), Wikus du Toit (Senior Manager: Scripted Content – Premium) and Sanele Shibe (Senior Manager Movies – Middle and Mass) spoke on the advantages and challenges of content creation in an African context - something we know a whole lot about! The event took place at the Market Theatre in Joburg, as part of the CILECT Conference held at the University of the Witwatersrand. The Wits Film & TV school is part of CILECT, the International Association of Cinema, Audiovisual and Media Schools. Over 180 film and television schools in six continents belong to the organisation. The film is directed by renowned Nigerian filmmaker and AMVCA winner Nora Awolowo, produced by Guinness Matchday Productions and streaming on Showmax and Showmax Premier League. “I am proud of the work we put in and the results. We worked with more than a hundred crew members across four countries. Controlling and shooting a live match wasn’t an easy task, but we did it. Football did that."

Spinners is taking names. 🏆 🚨 The first season of #ShowmaxOriginal drama series beat the final season of Succession to be named Best Foreign TV Series at the 29th Shanghai TV Festival’s Magnolia Awards, one of the biggest accolades in Asia. #Spinners was produced in collaboration with CANAL+ and tells the story of Ethan, a 17-year-old driver working for a local gang. Disenchanted with gang life, he discovers a way out via spinning, an extreme motorsport.

Our Employee of The Month for April is the fantastic Siphe Mkize! Working on the Thabo Bester documentary with Siphe was one for the books. This was one of the biggest campaigns we worked on, and it was amazing to do so with Siphe. She showed leadership skills and managed to get our departments to collaborate and bring this campaign to life. This campaign had its challenges, but she pushed through and made sure it was a success. It is a privilege to work with such a brilliant mind. Siphe ran with this campaign and coordinated with each team both externally and internally with the utmost professionalism. She put in the hours and the work to see this campaign through.
