Celebrating 50 years of the barcode we all use every day. As an early adopter of scanning technology,  Pick n Pay Hyper in Wonderpark was one of our first barcode scanning stores in 1982 and we opened the first all-scanning store in Australia with our Brisbane Hypermarket in 1984 (the Australian Hyper venture was sold in 1989).    The Paynet system was launched about the same time making us the first to accept electronic payments at point of sale. "Pick n Pay has always been on the cutting edge of technology. We are currently noted for being one of the first mainstream retailers in the world to accept cryptocurrency for payment," - Chairman of Pick n Pay Stores Limited Gareth Ackerman.

Our new initiative in collaboration with EWaste Africa and ERA to offer recycling solutions to our customers is underway. The partnership aims to address the growing environmental issue of ewaste, expanding our recycling efforts beyond conventional items to include small to larger appliances.
