Transforming Africa through #Agenda2063

About us

At the June 2018 AU Assembly a decision was taken to transform the NEPAD Planning and Coordination Agency into the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD). The establishment of AUDA-NEPAD is part of the global reforms geared at improving the Union’s impact and operational efficiency. In response to Africa’s emerging needs, AUDA-NEPAD’s strategic priorities for 2022 fall under the following three signature solutions: 1) Health – Focus is on building capacity in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing sector and improving access to essential health care services; 2) Economic growth and job creation through interventions aimed at enhancing infrastructure development, trade and markets and productivity-enhancing innovations, and 3) Food systems, aimed at increasing agricultural and food productivity to ensure food and nutrition security.

  • Happy South African Women's Day Today, we celebrate the remarkable women of South Africa who have been the pillars of strength, resilience, and courage throughout history. From the bold defiance of Charlotte Maxeke, the pioneering efforts of Albertina Sisulu, the unwavering leadership of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, to the inspiring activism of Mama Tambo—women have consistently shaped South Africa’s narrative. This day holds immense significance not just for South African women, but for women across the African continent. It is a day to honor the collective struggles, achievements, and ongoing efforts of African women in breaking barriers, challenging norms, and leading transformative change. Across Africa, women are the backbone of their communities and economies, and this day reminds us of the shared strength and resilience that unites us all in the pursuit of equality and empowerment. These iconic figures, along with countless unsung heroines, have challenged oppression, driven progress, and built the foundation of our thriving society. Their legacy lives on in the women of today, who lead with innovation, compassion, and resilience across all sectors. As we commemorate this significant day, let us reaffirm our commitment to gender equality and continue to uplift and empower the women of today.

  • As #WorldBreastfeedingWeek comes to an end, it’s important to recognise the transformative power of breastfeeding in the #First1000Days. Breastfeeding has the potential to prevent 20,000 maternal deaths each year by reducing the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and type 2 diabetes. AUDA-NEPAD is dedicated to advancing maternal and child health initiatives through nutrition sensitive interventions that ensure every mother and child in Africa can access the support they need for a healthy start in life. By investing in early nutrition, we are investing in the future of our continent and building the Africa that We Want – Africa’s Agenda 2063

  • The #First1000Days of a child’s life represent a critical window of opportunity for shaping a healthy future and a healthy economy. Breastfeeding and good nutrition during this period is vital, as it contributes to preventing nearly 823,000 child deaths annually worldwide. At AUDA-NEPAD, we are driving continent-wide efforts to support maternal and child nutrition, with the goal of reducing stunting rates as stipulated in the CAADP /Malabo Declaration set of goals and targets of reducing stunting to 10% by 2025. The prevalence of stunting is currently affecting 30% of children under 5 in Africa. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek

  • Breastfeeding is not just a fundamental act of nurturing; it’s the foundation of a healthy start in life, particularly in the crucial #First1000Days. Studies show that children who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months are 14 times less likely to die than those who are not. As we observe #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, we reaffirm our commitment to improving maternal and child health across Africa. Our initiatives are focused on the implementation of high impact actions across health, #nutrition, agriculture, water and sanitation, through the facilitation and promotion of a number of nutrition flagship areas. These are to promote improved maternal and young child nutrition through essential actions for optimal infant health and good nutrition. • We supported the Zambian government via the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry with ICT infrastructure for Coordinated Border Management at the Chirundu One Stop Border Post. Operations are now officially handed over, and we are training various entities at the border. Our Chirundu One Stop Border Post ICT infrastructure project supports Coordinated Border Management, aligning with COMESA and SADC Ministers of Transport's recommendations on the AUDA-NEPAD Traffic Light System, a key tool for measuring border performance.
