Congratulations to NRF alumna (and newly NRF-rated!) Prof Tebogo Phetla Mashifana on receiving a TW Kambule-NSTF Emerging Researcher Award at the recent NSTF-SOUTH32 Awards. Her work has yielded remarkable real-world results, including a provisional patent for using modified waste materials as a substitute for conventional binding agents like cement.

Congratulations to Dr Tiisetso Lephoto (PhD, MBA), a former NRF Science Engagement Awardee, on receiving a TW Kambule-NSTF Emerging Researcher Award at the recent NSTF-SOUTH32 Awards. At just 26, she became the youngest and first black female to earn a PhD in Nematology in SA. Now, as a lecturer and research leader, she is paying it forward.

NRF 25 years | Highlights. In 2007, a new, state-of-the-art wet collection facility was completed and officially opened at NRF-SAIAB. The size of the collection now consists of more than a million individual fish specimens from southern Africa and its surrounding oceans. Meet Dr Retang Mokua: https://lnkd.in/d_Hu-G9K. Currently a postdoctoral fellow at the South African Environmental Observation Network (NRF-SAEON), she also received funding from the NRF for her postgraduate studies. Her research is focused on evaluating the impact of current changes in vegetation on river flows in the Mariepskop Mountains.

Presentations will also be delivered by Dr Angus Paterson (NRF DCEO: NRIP) and Dr Gugu Moche (Acting DCEO: RIISA), amongst others.
