I'm a fan. I came here with my father, brother in law, my sisters fiance and his brother and brother in law this past weekend for shaves for their wedding Saturday evening. We each took our turns being shaved and couldn't have been happier with the outcome.
I personally have gotten a few barber shaves before, and have been very disappointed to say the least once or twice but these guys know what they are doing. After we all finished, we received a complimentary drink of whiskey and it was quite enjoyable.
John, the owner, was super knowledgeable of all the products (likely because he and his family manufacture it all in-house (a second location) in small batches. All the products smelled great, John was very friendly and I look forward to him hopefully opening up a shop a bit closer to me in NJ.
Thanks for the shave and look forward to coming back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Siggs L.Brooklyn, NY0121Jul 22, 2022
I got a $50 gift certificate for my birthday for this place and decided to splurge and get the ultimate shave and haircut. The front attendant was very jovial and courteous and offered me a drink of whiskey. Which I gladly took.
The guy who took care of my grooming needs was distracted the whole time. He had his cell phone propped up on his station and was streaming The World Cup.
The shave I admit was great. I felt refreshed afterwards. The haircut however was subpar. I had to tell him twice to blend it better and cut it shorter. I get a better haircut with much more attention to detail at my local barber for $12.
When it came time to pay the front attendant was really laying it on thick that I wasn't tipping enough. We take care of you and give you whiskey...etc. I refused to pay what he suggested and gave only a little more.
If ever do come back here it will be for the shave only.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Natalie H.Las Vegas, NV6141Apr 7, 2019
My husband has seen Boris for 4 years and has always had the best experience. Boris is a true talent and gives the best shaves in the city. The parlor is always impeccably clean and they have a great stock of shaving products (locally made with fresh ingredients). Husband and wife owned and operated - 5 stars all the way!

My man always gets a nice clean shave and a gentleman's haircut here. It's fun to sit, wait and watch in an old school vibe decor.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I went in to get some shaving supplies for my straight razor and read about this shop online. I entered, and the guy got up for him chair, and said hi. It started off quite well. I looked at the razors and the soaps. Then I began asking some questions. He basically responded with every one of my questions with "Buy a razor and I will show you". "Buy a razor and I will tell you". I said that I had a razor already, and he sighed and mumbled.
So then I asked about a Dovo razor. He didn't say anything about it except that it was good. Ok, so what was good about it? I have a Thiers Issard and am looking for another in my rotation. I asked him about the price, and he said $185. Then, he said "Too expensive for you?"
At this point I am done. I walked out the store. I went to the Aesop shop right on the same street for their shaving cream. It is excellent, and the customer service was friendly and helpful.
If you want a good razor, Henry Westpfal & Co in Chelsea has a great Fromm razor.
I recommend stay the heck away from this place at all cost. People like this do not deserve business.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jerry L.Corpus Christi, TX012339Jan 22, 2018

Time your visit to see Alex on Tuesdays, Fridays or Saturdays. There is only one barber on at time here in this tiny, old-school gem of a shop. The have another location in mid-town. John, the proprietor, is usually here on Elizabeth street and will hook you up with complimentary whiskey with your cut or shave.

Thanks to the owner for recognizing my unfortunate experience and rectifying it by providing a better one. I saw Ruben on the East 49th street shop and he did a much better job than the last guy I saw on Elizabeth. I have to say - personally, I don't think barbershops are for me. But if this is your thing, they do a fine job.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 26, 2016Previous reviewTen steps to getting a haircut and ultimate shave from The New York Shaving Company, except at home and much cheaper:
1) Pour yourself some lukewarm whiskey into a plastic cup.
2) Put on some 1940s music reminiscent of what you'd hear waiting in line for the Hollywood Tower of Terror.
3) Sit in an uncomfortable chair.
4) Tell yourself what you want for a haircut, and then contradict yourself by saying "no, I'll do something better. Just watch."
5) Take a dull pair of scissors and start chopping at your hair. Don't worry about consistency or direction - just chop. It's ok if the hair on the left side of your head is considerably shorter than that on the right.
6) Recline your chair so it's even more uncomfortable.
7) Massage some oil onto your face. Doesn't matter what kind as long as you rub the oil hard into your skin.
8) Take some shaving cream and heat it up in the microwave. Then slap it carelessly on your face.
9) Take a dull blade and slowly scrape your face away. If it sounds like long nails are being dragged along a wooden door, you're doing it right.
10) Clean yourself off and put on some "moisturizer." Don't forget to stick your fingers up your nose while applying said lotion in wayward directions. - David C.San Francisco, CA0295Jun 22, 2018
They may have been the place to go at some point....But not today. My beard trim took 1 min. No lie. He didn't do what I wanted which was to even my beard...he just lopped half of it off...and extended his hand to say thank you. 1 minute..$25 1st and last time goin.

Worst straight razor shave I've ever had. No one has ever cut me more and missed more of my beard than their service. I opted for the "supreme". Thirty years of experience and I felt like my face was getting ground like coffee. Razor burn and just generally ROUGH service. Wish I still had my beard to cover the nicks and burn.
