Best dentist in NYC. No frills and down to the point. Filling fell out and had it replaced for $150 including xray, removing cavity and refill my fillings.
They do charge $500 for root canal and another $500 for the crown after root canal, whereas other places does this for $2500.
He has 30 years on the job and it shows.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Victoria B.Brooklyn, NY82898Feb 3, 2024
This is my dentist! I am so grateful I received a recommendation for Dr. Lam. You can't get a better priced dentist in NYC. Dr. Lam is enjoyable, funny, professional. He is very straight forward. This is not an office which will attempt to finagle you into unnecessary costly work. I like the staff, the entire experience. Thank You to everyone at Dr. Lam's office!

I was super excited when I first found Dr. Lam, as I needed a root canal badly, and my insurance was not trying to cover it. The cash price was very reasonable for a root canal and a 'porcelain' crown, and now I understand why.
About 6 months after I got the crown, I noticed a hole in the middle of it. I asked my primary dentist about it, but he didn't seem concerned.
October 2022, a little over a year after my root canal sessions were finished and I had my crown place. Like an Apple product right after its warranty expires, my crown decided to fail.
I contacted their office, hoping I would be able to get my crown repaired and re-affixed to my tooth, hoping they would back up their work. I was charged $60, which should've been free given how quickly the crown failed.
It is now January 2023, another hole has developed and my crown has once again come off. This time, I unfortunately ended up chomping down on it while I was eating. I'm hoping no other damage was done as biting 'porcelain' is not what your teeth are made for.
The moral of the story is to just save your $1100, and fly to Mexico for your root canal or any other procedure this office might offer for a 'reasonable' price.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Suzune K.Manhattan, NY02019Jan 18, 2023Updated review
UPDATE IN 2023.
Due to the inflation, the price has been changed.
Crown -$400
Root canal-$400(in total. Two treatment)
Cavity-$120(includes X-ray)
They now take Zelle, Venmo for payment.
Still super reasonable price with an excellent treatment.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Nov 5, 2020Previous reviewI have been looking for a dentist for years since my last dentist ended its business. I visited more than 10 dentists in the past 5years and non of them met my criteria, but finally! I found the one!!!
He is gentle, kind and his skill is excellent!! Also, he fully explains how much the treatment costs me and how long it would take. (I don't have dental insurance)
Just you know, if you would pay everything by yourself, they take only cash or check. If you cannot afford the bill at once, tell them so. They might suggest some payment plans. From my experience, the crown costs you $400 (includes x-ray), filling cots you $80 (also includes everything).
They are located on 4th FL in the tiny building. At this moment, the elevator limits 2 people at the same time, so make sure to arrive there a bit earlier or use the stairs.
They provide hand sanitizer and check your temp. upon arrival in the waiting room.
Opens: Saturday-Thursday 9 am- 5 pm (appointment is required)
I'm glad I could find this place. - Tarek E.New York, NY063Mar 15, 2023
My son has referred me to Dr. Lam's office. The clinic is clean and well organized. Dr Lam is very competent and knowledgeable. More importantly, is so honest. As this was my first visit to a dentist in 5 years, He has checked and x rayed all my mouth (as per my request). He was so patient in making sure that the crown is comfy and has kept grinding and printing till I felt the crown is so good. The front desk was so helpful and decent. Price is really very good compared to the very exaggerated pricing of most if not all dentistry offices in NY & NJ.
Strongly recommend. You will never regret it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 2, 2020Updated review
COVID-19 update:
2 weeks ago, when I tried to make my first appointment, I was informed that they would only be open Monday to Wednesday. Eventually, I made my appointment for Tuesday. I was actually late by about 20 minutes, because the traffic has been awful; I drove from South Brooklyn to Chinatown, and every step of the way, there was construction or reduced lane usage. So plan ahead!
Luckily, I only had to wait about 5 minutes, after a trek up 4 flights of stairs due to the 2-person-per-elevator rule. There was a huge tub of hand sanitizer sitting on the table, no one else in the waiting area, a plastic screen on the receptionist's desk, and the employees themselves all wore a hair net, glasses/safety glasses and masks.
When I situated myself on the chair, the doctor brought over a large suction machine. "For the virus," he said. Let's hope it works? The cleaning was super quick, this time with both scaling, brushing and baking soda. This time, the doctor gave me a facial wipe for the baking soda, though I didn't manage to get all of it off my face (as usual). What I like is how painless and clean my teeth are. However, he did inform me that I might have a small cavity to check up on next time.
Oh yeah, they increased their teeth cleaning price to $60 now. Funnily enough that's still cheaper than everything in Brooklyn and Manhattan out-of-pocket.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Dec 11, 2018Previous reviewBarebones this place is, but wow is it efficient.
What I'm extremely pleased about is that this is the only place I've found that will take walk-ins. AND is cheap.
I arrived at 11:50 am and was told that obviously, appointments go first. I got lunch, came back, and at 12:45 pm, was called in.
The doctor didn't do a detailed check, but I know my teeth are fine and I was in a rush. He quickly did scaling then brushing with those special pastes. Something unique happened after. To make my teeth whiter, he sprayed baking soda--a lot of it--on the inside and outside of my teeth. I appreciated this, but I wasn't given goggles or anything, so it got all over my face. Some water got on my face too at times, and was just left there. Also, the machine left in the mouth to suck moisture felt a bit uncomfortable, as if worn.
Still, my high rating is due to the fast, thorough, available, and cheap ($40! (other places I've called charge $70-$80 without insurance)) cleaning. Very hard to find! - Jiggly B.New York, NY01May 20, 2023
Really great work done with reasonable prices. Highly recommended coming here if you need work done on a tooth/teeth.

Dr. Lam is a Godsend! no nonsense approach, very proactive and quick, and honest. I found him through a personal recommendation. The most fair priced dentist ever, and also telling me what I don't need, or need yet. I drove 50 miles twice so far, and my fiancé will be getting some root canals from him soon...you can save so much on the same treatments you can get anywhere. I was able to get an appt fairly quickly both times. If driving into the city, all garages in Chinatown take about 15 mins (give it 20) to get your car parked. He's my go-to dentist now, and the team also, you all were great! So grateful for you all. =)

Dr. Lam is a quick efficient guy, I got there on time however I was made to wait. He numbed me up with some topical agent, then stuck my gums with novacane to begin the root canal. I was afraid of the needle so he walked away from me to serve another patient. He was quick and stopped when I told him I felt weird about the sensory overload. His prices are fair, you'll never find a dentist to do a root canal for less than 1000 bucks in Manhattan. Just be forewarned this isn't a fancy high tech place it's very barebones, but clean nonetheless. Bring cash though!
