My husband and I had a romantic weekend at the Calistoga Spa Resort and Inn. The Calistoga Inn is extremely close to downtown - literally a few feet away which was a great perk. The main reason that we stayed at this hotel is for the mud baths. Many of the hotels in Calistoga do not have mud baths which is a unique experience. The spa was okay. However, I think it could be improved by order the of treatments within the mud bath package. I first started out being buried in therapeutic hot mud and was then plunged into a piping hot tub. I literally got dizzy and had to stop my treatment. I was really sad about that. I have had mud baths and mud wraps before, but I have never had back to back treatments that exposed me extremely hot temps for prolonged periods of time. I definitely think the Calistoga Spa Resort should examine that process. Also, the woman who walked my husband and me back to treatment area from the front desk seemed very rushed and a bit flustered. This truly took away from the treatment. The beginning of the experience was my introduction to a person that was stressed and in a hurry. She wasn't very helpful in telling me where the quiet room was located. Based on receiving many spa treatments, I had the expectation that this would be part of the procedure. I had to ask about the room or I would have waited on a wood bench that was in the large spa area that housed the showers, mud baths, hot tubs, etc,.
The rooms are tucked away in a good part of property. The rooms are on the perimeter of the property while the pool, hot tubs, barbecue grills, and chairs, etc, are in the inside. The mood of the inn is relaxed. I liked our room. It had a nicely appointed kitchen. The room was decorated and configured well. The bed and bedding were comfortable. There is nothing worse than going on vacation and not being able to sleep well. Our room was located in an area that was quiet, so relaxation was accomplished easily. Overall, I would stay there again for the hotel but go to another resort that has better spa amenities and felt more peaceful.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Zach S.Petaluma, CA165381Jan 29, 2024
3-days, with my SO, first vacation, best experience. Every single person on the staff (front desk, room services, night security -Michael you rule!!, everyone) SO SO SO nice, helpful, direct, and sweet. The pools are great, different temps, different shapes, different vibes, 4 to choose from. We loved dipping into each one for different reasons.
The location is PRIME. Everything is walkable. The food around is AMAZING. Everything in Calistoga is a splurge for a common-folk like me, believe me I have some above-average privileges, however I can't do this whenever I want. It was WORTH IT. I've been to Indian springs, this is way more reasonable. Just perfectly a splurge without any regrets on taking a romantic weekend get-a-way.
Transparent pricing: $660 for 2-nights with a third night included for free with a special. Did not get any other spa packages, just slept/showered in room, hung out in hot springs/pools.
The rooms are nice, everything you need, thoughtful. The noise from the outside (especially kids or being near ice machine) was a bit disruptive to me at times; however, that's my own deal. Kids exist, people want ice, and that's OK. I'm beyond a happy customer. Calistoga is a special place, thank you!Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 2 - Nov 14, 2023
Had a nice getaway with my ladies here!
Beautiful outdoor pool/firepits, cozy and vibrant rooms, and relaxing spa is the perfect mix for some R&R.
Located in downtown Calistoga, this place is a haven for those who are looking for some hot springs, massage, and mud baths. Unfortunately, they don't do facials but there are surrounding hotels like Indian Springs that do.
I got a prenatal massage and it was ok- the technique was different to what I'm used to but trust that it was for the best for the 3rd trimester. We enjoyed the hotel's amenities, especially the pool/firepit area.
There are also a ton of restaurants and shops walking distance from the hotel - we really enjoyed Evangeline's, which served French-Creole cuisine.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0 - Parker J.Reno, NV12113Jun 19, 2024
I don't know where these bad reviews are coming from as this place is lovely. My first time here and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. 10/10. The pools, the room, the amazing robes, the gym, and the staff were incredibly kind. Lastly the location is perfect, side street so it's quiet but within walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops. Nothing quite like wine tasting followed by a mineral spa soak in there massive hot tub or pools. Absolutely will return.

We had a group of nine ladies. We booked four rooms and stayed two nights.
A variety of treatments were booked. Some did facials, and some did the whole-body experience. All did the mud bath and soaked in the hot mineral baths.
The mud bath was a hilarious experience for me. Thankfully, a fantastic attendant (Maria) helped us and kept us informed. **Helpful hints: wear your swimsuit and take it off when you get to the mud tub and put it back on to sit in the mineral hot tub. There's no hiding being naked, you literally have to slowly sink in the mud and not wiggle to the bottom. The tub is heated from the bottom, it's thick mud and hot. Because it's natural mineral clay it has an odor. For a group of ladies in our 40's and 50's we had some great laughs.
They have outdoor, group firepits to hang around, there's a coffee bar in the morning for all guests. If you stay the night they have bikes available to cruise around town on. There are restaurants within a quick walk.
In the evening the regular pool and hot tubs are crowded but most people used common sense and rotated in and out of the pools, to give others a turn. They didn't have a lot of pool towels.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - 19627Mar 5, 2024
We were here on a rainy weekend, and swimming in the rain was absolutely delightful. We floated in the middle temperature pool and watched as the rain drops danced on the surface of the water. The large hot tub is covered. The lap pool was even warm enough, despite the cold rain. Bring your own food. The snack bar options are limited and meh. Our room was simple, comfortable, and clean. I wish they'd offer use of the pool for the day without a treatment.

Always a perfect experience at the Calistoga Spa Hot Springs!!
Their room is clean and large and has all the amenities: cookware for an easy meal, coffee maker, small fridge and wine glasses.
It is right in downtown Calistoga and walkable to many shops: coffee, supermarket (right across the street), restaurants, banks and downtown shops.
The ambience is always relaxing and laid back (the town itself and the hotel). And the hotel has excellent crowd control and we never find "too many people" at the pool or spa or overly crowded. Well done Calistoga Spa!
We always come happy and leave happy and relaxed.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 39189587May 14, 2023
I stayed here for a weekend alone and also tried the mud bath. Here are my thoughts for the hotel and the spa experience:
Pros:
- location is actually great. It is right in downtown but tugged away for privacy. Plenty of parking
- there are variety of pools offered, especially for kids
- I like the lap pools for doing laps
- most of the staff here are working really hard and very pleasant, except for one or two people I interacted with and could see where some negative reviews came from
- there are bbq grills here. Small kitchen. Small fridge and stove. I didn't use them but could see helpful for kiddos.
- this place is overall kids friendly
- mud bath was interesting and Carmen was wonderful. I had some issues caused by a lack of explanation/instructions prior to the appointment, the crew were very helpful helping me find stuff.
Cons
- the girl checked me in didn't give me enough info. I ran into some trouble using the spa later, which I would explain. The same girl is the one I have some problem with, which i will explain later
- there are no plunge pool. I can't get my heart rate down fast enough with the lap pool. Lap pool was cooler but not enough for a cold plunge. They also have an outdoor shower but once it runs for a sec or two, it got warm also, not helpful. I ended it up getting cold water from the water offering at snack bar and dump them over me. Not enough
- I tried to explain this issue to the front desk, recommending them to provide some cold plunge offering, eg just pure cold showering etc. the girl who checked me in also took this really the wrong way. She first said that these pools are programmed that way. Then she went on telling me I am the first person complaining the pool to her. I was like, now you have one. I was asking whether she can pass on the message to someone at the resort management. She didn't get the message and asked me to email someone at the facility myself. Ummm... I will just post reviews then. She is the same person didn't give me any instructions to the spa, causing some issues later.
- the snack bar doesn't offer many good offerings. Mostly soda and ice water. Just ice water. No lemon/lime in the ice water but it works
- apparently, when you stay on resort, you are expected to wear the bathrobe to the spa. Those robes are good for the evening and chilly days but not for a steaming hot day. Plus, they are way too big for me and I can easily trip over. No one ever explained or told me I need to get changed in my room and wear those huge and heavy robes for my spa appointments in the middle of day with 91 degrees outside (we can only walk outside over). I showed up, no instructions prior, in my summer outfit. Their response was oh, you are supposed to wear the robe in your room... well, then someone needs to tell me and maybe providing me with something more wearable on a 91 degree day?? They were able to find me a locker but didn't get me the locker number. After a lot of rush, I forgot to get the number and after the mud bath, completely forgot about the locker number. The crew were nice enough to help me find it but not after like 30 min of struggle. LoL there you go.
- Calistoga area of hot spring is mostly carbonated. I don't see good amount of carbonation after using the pools for a long time. I am not sure how much hot springs are presented here. I smell strong chemical from the pool. While clean, but not too comfortable and having weird rashes after.
If I am back alone, I definitely won't consider here. I MIGHT consider bring kiddos over but not sure whether it is worth a second visit.Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 1
