Ordered online and walked over to Black Seed. When I arrived everything was clearly marked. Overhead sign said pick up. . Next to the register is a shelf with a bag stapled shut with my name on the bag. It was a quick seamless transaction. One I arrived at my destination I unwrapped a sesame bagel with bacon. egg, and cheese with scallion cream cheese, hot sauce and salt. The bagel was ever so slightly toasted, I wish it was more toasted. The bagel was good, the filling plentiful. I just wish there was more spice. It was a solid bagel. I'd come back for another

I know there are a million places to get bagels in NY, but so far, they have the best fresh bagels. The texture is unbeatable (crunch outside and soft inside). I'm not talking about filling or anything, just the bagel itself - magical. It even tastes good reheated!! Great service (specifically for delivery/catering)!

Black seed bagels are good!! Just a classic NYC bagel. Both times I've come, there hasn't been a line out the door like Tompkins Square, which is nice if you're trying to get in and out. Their cream cheese is delish and they give you a lot of it. It's more "no frills" than other NYC bagel places I've been; there's no rainbow bagels and things like that, and a more limited selection of spreads, so I'd say it's less touristy, but perfect for morning breakfast! There's a decent amount of seating and it has a calm atmosphere. The staff are friendly, too!

I am baffled at these reviews. 3 stars?!?!?!?!? Crazy.
Black Seed is my favorite bagel place in the city and I'm tired of acting like it's not.
"Yeah okay Johnny you clearly haven't been to Thompkins..." YEAH I HAVE AND BLACK SEED IS BETTER.

Okay, I have calmed down.
You walk in and they are making the bagels fresh right there in front of you. After passing a big menu on the wall, you place your order and they hand you a ticket. I was number 99 today. Great number.
I ordered the BEC with no cheese and add avocado. BANG!
It was everything I had hoped and dreamed, as it always is. The bacon to egg ratio was perfect, which is tougher to achieve than one may think.
All in all, I need what these other people are smoking. Actually no I don't it's probably laced.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

This place is amazing! After trying a bunch of bagel places in New York, Black Seed Bagels strikes the balance between a delicious bagel and a hefty amount of toppings.
The everything bagels worked perfectly with any of the toppings (it wasn't too salty as I have experienced in the past) and they do not skimp out on the cream cheese.
I personally enjoyed the lox and dill cream cheese and found that, even though the bagel was a bit smaller, the taste made up for it. (They even offer plain and everything gluten free bagels!)
The music was very good, the ambiance was very chill and laid back, and the service was quick (at least on a Saturday morning) . I would definitely come back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - cathy c.New York, NY286May 12, 2024
Best bagels in NYC!!!!! Not only that, but the best customer service, as well. After having a Black Seed bagel, I don't want any other!!

Interior was great with indoor and outdoor seating, but the bagels were lacking. I ordered the BOCA which includes cheddar, avocado, egg, and tomatoes. The tomatoes were not very present (can barely see in the photos), and the bagel was somewhat cold even though i requested it be toasted. This was piled on an everything bagel, that was not seasoned too well.

Great bagels, fast and friendly service. My favorite is the everything bagel with egg and cheese.

Now, that black seed has lines going out the door bc of social media traction, I thought it was about time to write a review. As someone who has lived near black seed for years and has braved the weekend lines when I feel my weekend bagel craving hit, I would consider myself well-versed.
I felt like returning on a rainy Sunday. No line and great, speedy service. I like black seed because it feels fresh when Im eating it. The BOCA has everything -- egg, cheese, and avocado all on a buttered, toasted bagel. They keep it simple if you like the flavors of egg/cream cheese/etc with no extra seasoning/flavor
I also rotate that with a classic salmon sandwich on an everything or an everything with tofu/veggie cc (always toasted). They feature speciality sandwiches throughout the year which keeps their menu fresh and exciting. A lot is meat-based and not necessarily for breakfast.
Back to the BOCA (featured pic). The bagel itself is flatter and denser. Slightly chewier. There isn't a lot of height which makes it easier to eat in sandwich form
Another note-- the coffee is really not it especially compared to surrounding places. I keep giving it chances and it never gets better (iced oat milk latte is close to unfinishable). If you don't want to go to two different spots, which I get, I would suggest an iced tea which they get from Bushwick tea.
They keep it classic which I like and don't have anything that feels gimmicky like Cake Batter cream cheese or rainbow bagels (which are fun, but I don't really crave). I definitely have mixed feelings about black seed but its simple flavors allow it to be consistent.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
