Keep these hidden gems alive! Seemed like there was only one guy operating the restaurant. I ordered the papaya salad and it was LIFE. So fresh, crunchy, well-dressed. It was truly the best one I've ever had. I would recommend this again ($11). I also had the khao man gai tod. I would try something else next time because the chicken was a bit too underseasoned for me.
I liked the vibes of this place. Prices are very reasonable!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 11, 20241 check-in
The place was authentic feelings, but the food was just alright. I had the Pad Thai with fried chicken and the noodles were half burnt and very Al dante. The flavor was pungent. The chicken had a nice crisp, but no flavor. Had to definitely dip it in the sauce.
I overall thought the the place had its own charm and very affordable.
But I would not come back since I'm sure there w many other better Thai places. But if you wanna support local business check it out! The owner/chef was so straight-faced and did not care literally about anyone or anything.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer G.Miami Lakes, FL024Jul 17, 20241 check-in
I had a nice time here at Bangklyn. The food was just super nice and tasty. The staff was very well-trained and professional. The ambiance was very cozy and relaxing.

This relaxed spot will charm you within seconds! Stop by if you're in the area. It's so hole in the wall that when you walk in you think you're in someone's personal living room - specifically one of a studio apartment with all the clothes hanging on the wall (which are some for sale some not). The decor was funky and homey with a variety of seating inside and out.
The meals were served in mismatched dishes adding to the ambiance.
1. The cabbage salad was good and definitely worth a try on the side to share
2. The Larb fish was so flavorful and yummy
3. The pad Thai was sweet and delicious, the fried chicken was incredible. Let me repeat THE FRIED CHICKEN!
4. The Tamarind Coconut Milk Noodles is very unique to this restaurant. Never seen it anywhere before and it was definitely interesting to try. It was a little sweet and pink.
The restaurant was run by one man who took the orders and cooked all the food. He was very efficient and you could watch him making the food right there. He spoke broken English and incredibly kind, he let us stay past closing time.
Add this to your unique must try's!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Linh V.New York, NY667138222Dec 5, 2023
Local authentic thai spot. This place is more for purists that want to sit down and have homemade Thai. Thai staffed, family owned, humble place that served me well. The spot cozy, perfect for a quiet date. What's amazing about Thai food in nyc is you'll eat at 20 different Thai places and can still be blown away by the 21st spot.
Thank you for the experience Bangklyn!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Prima P.New York, NY112310Mar 3, 2024
I walked in on a Sunday afternoon. The man behind the counter was unfriendly. I walked out without trying the food. I'm very disappointed because I wanted to try authentic Thai food.

Yooooooo! Don't miss this gem in East Harlem. It truly is a unique experience that transports you to Thailand -- from the quirky mismatched decor that somehow works to the legit non-Americanized Pad Thai, it does not disappoint.
The fried chicken was UGH-mazing, with a capital UGH I can't believe how thin and crispy this skin is in this sweet and savory sauce.
The crab pad thai had that delicious fishy flavor that just fills your nostrils with savory aromas.
The Khao Man Gai was a bit dry but the rice, soup, and sauce were all on point.
Ask the owner about the clothes and you might get a story about owning a clothing store in Thailand, high fashion, or a YouTube video in Thai showcasing his old store. Or, you might get a gruff eye roll as he goes back to cooking up a storm of yummy goodness for your belly.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jan 4, 2023
This was my 1st ever order, via Yelp for delivery to a loved one. He was very ill, I figured I would try this, being 3k away. This hit the spot. He said the soup was the best he ever had. The entire meal, was a HUGE hit. Delivery was a bit confusing (lock on exterior building) and a language barrier between myself and driver. However we got it figured out and J was incredibly pleased with the meals.
Will visit in person next trip and would order again!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Diana N.Boston, MA478183Aug 20, 2023
So thankful we live nearby this spot. We eat here at least once every 2 weeks. I don't write reviews too often but this place deserves all the hype!
Top 3 best Thai food out of all the CA and NYC spots I've tried. It's home-y, comfort food and it hits the spot every single time. And it's a one-man show! He's not too social so he lets his food do alllll the talking.
Also I'm absolutely obsessed w his fried chicken. And curry. Just please. I think about the fried chicken very often.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2022
Ask someone the best neighborhoods for Thai food in NYC, and you're sure to get suggestions which include 9th Avenue, the border of Elmhurst and Jackson Heights, and perhaps Carroll Gardens given a few standout establishments.
Add East Harlem to the list, if only because of Bangklyn. Half skate shop, half restaurant, Bangklyn may only offer 3 tables, but what matters is the dishes on those tables.
We shared the papaya salad, the khao mun tofu, and the coconut vermicelli noodles with tofu and mushroom. Everything was outstanding, from the thin peppery flavor profile of the salad to the rich, chutney-like texture of the coconut purée on the noodles. But the tofu and accompanying fermented soy bean sauce were the highlight for me - a worthy vegetarian rendition of the far kore famous khao mun gai.
I will definitely make the trek back here in the future.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
