Shop assistant robbed at knifepoint on Canvey Island

Police are investigating a robbery which took place last night at a shop on Canvey Island during which a woman was threatened, and cash was taken. 

At about 7pm on Tuesday May 21, a man entered the High Street shop and threatened a woman with a knife, ordering her to open the till.

He made off with about £200 in cash.

A knife and part of the till was later discovered.

Equiries are ongoing, including reviewing CCTV from the shop and of the nearby area.

Inspector Mike Peterson said: “This was a distressing incident which we are taking extremely seriously and residents will notice a significant policing presence in the area today.

“To our residents, if you have any concerns or if you have any information which you believe we should know, please get in touch as soon as you can.”
