3 YAIAA players named to Pennsylvania coaches' all-state team

Three YAIAA players were named to Class 5A all-state teams it was announced on Friday.

South Western's Jayda Koontz and Kinsley Proepper were named to the first team and Dover's Kendall Noel was named to the second team by the Pa. High School Softball Coaches Association. More than 600 players were nominated for first- and second-team honors in six classifications. Players and pitchers of the year were also named in each class.

Koontz and Proepper were named the league's Division I pitcher and player of the year, respectively, hours before the Mustangs fell to Pittston in the PIAA semifinal. Pittston's Gianna Adams was named the Class 5A Pitcher of the Year for the third straight season by state coaches.

Koontz finished her junior season with 152 strikeouts and and an ERA under .845 as the Mustangs went 26-1 and won the District 3 title.

Proepper ended her high school career by hitting over .600 with 54 hits, 50 RBIs and 10 home runs. She was named a first-team catcher with 125 putouts and five assists.

Noel, a YAIAA Division II first-team selection, made the state second team at shortstop after leading Dover with a .441 batting average. She drove in 20 runs and hit five doubles and four triples.
