A child playing with a lighter has been ruled the cause of a fire that displaced 10 people from a York home on Sunday, according to York City Fire/Rescue Services Chief David Michaels.
The fire started in the 600 block of Wallace Street on Sunday afternoon. In total, four adults and six children were displaced as a result of the fire.
An investigation into the fire ruled that the cause was accidental — a result of a child playing with a lighter, Michaels said.
The fire caused $75,000 in damage, Michaels said. The fire was under control within minutes.
The Wallace Street fire was the first of two fires on Sunday. Later in the day, a home on Dartmouth Road was severely damaged by a fire.
