The Fourth of July in America featured parades, celebrations, American flags — and lots and lots of fireworks. The 248th anniversary of the country was recognized across all 50 states and many territories as a time of togetherness. In countless cities, the celebrations were punctuated by fireworks displays that lit up the night skies.
In New York and seen from New Jersey, the iconic Macy’s show — which featured 60,000 fireworks — dazzled across the Hudson River.
Fireworks also lit up the sky in the nation’s capital, producing bright bursts of color over the National Mall.
In San Francisco, drone footage showed fireworks near the Golden Gate Bridge. And in Boston, revelers listened to the Boston Pops orchestra as fireworks boomed above.

When Reddit said last month that it would block unauthorized data scraping from its site, everyone’s (rightful) first reaction was “AI.” However, now that the change has taken effect, search engines that don’t have deals with the website now appear to be locked out.
TikTok Lite, a low-bandwidth version of the video platform popular across Africa, Asia and Latin America, is exposing users to harmful content because of its lack of safety features compared to the flagship version of the app, according to a new report from Mozilla. The researchers said that TikTok Lite Save Data lacked “proactive user controls at their disposal,” such as the ability to filter offensive content and unwanted keywords, as well as tools to help lessen app addiction (the main app has rolled out screen time and other controls).
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said his top priority if reelected to the White House will be to “drill, baby, drill” to lower the cost of energy. Oil companies may not comply.
Last Sunday, President Joe Biden announced that he no longer plans to seek reelection, instead offering his “full endorsement” of VP Kamala Harris to become the Democratic Party’s nominee; in the days following, Harris secured support from the Democratic delegate majority. Harris and President Biden previously said they "reject the false choice that suggests we can either protect the public or advance innovation." At that time, Biden had issued an executive order calling for companies to set new standards around the development of AI.
