HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Welcome to the weekend! After Friday’s heavy rain, gusty winds, and severe thunderstorm warnings high pressure has set into Eastern Kentucky for the weekend. Temperatures in the mid to high 80s are present across Eastern Kentucky for Saturday and will move into the 90s for your Sunday afternoon. Lows look to be in the mid 60′s throughout the weekend as well.

The Work Week

We have a switch in the weather to a wetter week ahead with rain chances in the forecast through the week. While thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, it looks less lightning-heavy than some of our more recent events. Temperatures look to stick around the average to just above for the entirety of the work week. High dewpoints will cause very muggy weather conditions or “foggy glasses weather”. Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Beryl as the remnants possibly move into the viewing area late in the week in some forecasting models.

Looking Ahead

Above-average precipitation and slightly above-average temperatures are forecast for the remainder of July. July is typically the wettest month of the year for Eastern Kentucky and in order to stay above average rainfall numbers this pattern needs to continue. There are some dry spots in the latest drought monitor that should have improved conditions if adequate rainfall comes during the upcoming week.
