Shooting victim dies at hospital; name released

A 42-year-old man from Kermit, West Virginia, was shot and killed early Friday morning at a home in Mingo County.

MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Charles Speer, 42, of Kermit, West Virginia, was shot and killed early Friday morning in Mingo County, according to West Virginia State Police.

Officials said the victim was transported to the hospital after multiple gunshots where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting happened about 5 a.m. Friday in the Lenore area on state Route 65.

The shooter lived in the home, and officers said the victim previously knew him.

West Virginia State Police are still investigating and will continue working with the Mingo County Prosecutor.

Speer’s body will be taken to Frankfort, Kentucky, for an autopsy.
