HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Record expungement can lift barriers for those looking to have charges removed.

Those barriers can be included in housing, education and employment.

“So, it caused a rough process on being able to find a place to live when, you know, whenever I got out of treatment,” said Jeremy Yeary, who recently had charges removed from his record.

A Kentuckian must have five years with no new convictions before applying for expungement.

Some community members are looking for a faster process.

“I think it should be an opportunity for anyone, after so long it should just go off your record,” said Beverly Stamper, who also recently had charges removed.

A person on parole or probation is typically not eligible for expungement.

Class A, B, and C felonies are not eligible for expungement, however, some Class D felonies are eligible.
