LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Leslie County man is facing charges after a police chase.

The chase began after a deputy noticed a motorcycle with no license plate driving on East Laurel Road.

Once the deputy went to pull the motorcycle over, the driver reportedly began speeding away, nearly striking a Clay County Sheriff’s Office car.

“In the process of him running from the deputy, he was all over the road. He ran several cars off the road,” said Laurel County Sheriff’s Office PAO Gilbert Acciardo.

Police said the motorcycle reached 122 mph before slamming into the deputy’s car. The suspect then reportedly began running away on foot, but was immediately taken into custody.

Acciardo said the driver, identified as Todd Burton, 56, of Hyden, told police he was trying to avoid jail.

“He said that he knew he had no plates on the vehicle and that he had two outstanding warrants, and they weren’t, they were just failure to appear warrants,” said Acciardo.

Burton faces resisting arrest, evading police, wanton endangerment and other charges.

He was taken to the Laurel County Correctional Center.
