Name released after deadly crash in Laurel County

LAUREL CO., Ky. (WYMT) - (Update- 10:00 p.m.): Investigators say a silver colored Chevrolet Malibu was pulling out of a parking lot and pulled into the path of a Ford pickup, crashing into it trying to avoid a collision.

The driver of the silver colored Chevrolet Malibu was identified as Edith Taylor, 64, of London. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. A seven-year-old passenger in that vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported in either vehicle.

(Update - 6:36 p.m.): Deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office confirm KY-638 has re-opened.

The crash involved two vehicles.

The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A passenger was taken to a local hospital and received non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office told WYMT the crash happened on KY-638.

The person’s name has not been released.

Officials said the road is still closed as of 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The road is one and a half miles east of London and is located near Johnson Elementary School.
