LEE CO., Va. (WYMT) - (Update - 4/15/24): Officials with the Medical Examiner’s Office have released the name of the person whose body was found.

The person that was found was Jerry L. Wheet, 44, of Ewing, Virginia.

(Original Story) - Officials out of the Wytheville Field Office of the Virginia State Police’s (VSP) Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating a homicide that occurred in Lee County, Virginia.

Troopers with Virginia State Police said they were notified of the incident by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officials discovered a man dead in a wooded area near ATV trails along Valley Springs Road in the Rose Hill community.

The man’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for examination, autopsy and identification.

The investigation is ongoing.
