Chris Justus

Chief Meteorologist

Chris Justus’ love of weather began when he was just 8 years old, watching his dad, a 4th generation apple farmer, tend to his crops at Justus Orchard in Hendersonville, NC. Chris realized the importance of an accurate forecast which grew into a career of weather observation and forecasting across the Southeast, which eventually led him back home in the Upstate.

After earning his degree in meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Chris began his broadcasting career in Savannah, GA. While living on the coast, Chris tracked several hurricanes. That experience led him to Charlotte where he developed his deep understanding of forecasting weather for the Carolinas. His experience in forecasting severe weather led him to Nashville. Chris became well known in the Music City for his forecasting on a stormy night that brought a record 24 tornadoes, the largest tornado outbreak in Middle Tennessee history.

Chris came home and joined WYFF News 4 in 2013. Early in his time at WYFF News 4, Chris was one of the first meteorologists in the nation to broadcast weather events live on both Facebook and on TV. Chris was named Chief Meteorologist in November 2019 shortly after John Cessarich announced his retirement.

Chris is known as the trusted source for weather in the Carolinas and northeast Georgia, especially when it comes to reliable, early warnings of upcoming severe weather. In 2020 Chris was given "The Key to the City" in Seneca after his early warning of tornadoes was credited with saving lives. Chris was on air for hours that night, warning the area of the dangerous nighttime tornadoes which would be known as the Easter 2020 Tornado Outbreak.

Chris was named Weathercaster of the Year in 2021 by both the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC). Chris has also been nominated for two Emmys for his coverage of severe weather.

Chris and his wife Lauren live in Greenville with their two sons, Mason and Parker and daughter Olivia. Chris is committed to serving the community and is active in his church. If you see him around town, say hello!
