Nigel Robertson

Nigel Robertson joined WYFF News 4 in December 1999 as a reporter working the night shift for the late news.

Over the past two decades he has been promoted to weekend anchor, morning anchor, 5pm anchor and now you can find him anchoring WYFF News 4 at 5, 6 and 11. He also anchors WYFF4’s weekly public affairs program ‘4 The Record,’ which airs Sunday’s at 11:30am. Nigel earned his BA in Telecommunications from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Nigel's professional career began at WTVG, the ABC affiliate in Toledo, Ohio. There, he worked as an assistant producer and weekend assignment editor, learning the ropes behind the camera while he was still attending college.

After graduation, his next move was to WCJB in Gainesville, Fla., where he worked as a one-man band reporter from their Ocala bureau, covering the northern part of central Florida.

Nigel is a multiple Emmy award winning journalist, honored with emmys for Anchoring “Best Newscast” and for "Specialty Reporting", taking viewer inside Marine Boot camp, at Parris Island Marine Base in South Carolina.

He has also been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with Emmy nominations for "Business" and "Spot News Reporting", along with awards from the South Carolina Broadcasting Association and RTNDAC.

Nigel has gotten the chance to bring our viewers many exclusive interviews.

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, invited him to the United Nations Headquarters for a national exclusive and he is one of only a few journalists in the world to be granted a dual sit down interview with former President Barack and Michelle Obama.

In 2016, Nigel was one of three Hearst Television reporters chosen to cover the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For just over 3 weeks he covered the games, interviewed athletes, and delivered live reports at all hours of the day for almost 30 television stations around the country. His coverage was so well received, that he was also chosen to represent the company as a member of the 2018 Olympic team covering the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

After his Father was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in 2011, Nigel made it his mission to advance care for people all over the state of South Carolina with Neurological Disorders. He teamed up with the Greenville Health System, now Prisma Health, to create the state's first Neurological Institute helping patients with ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's and other neurological related diseases. As part of a team, he also helped create and organize the Greenville Polo Classic, which for 7 years, raised awareness and funds for patients and their families at GHS, Bon Secours St. Francis and the SC ALS Association.

Nigel is also an adjunct professor at Clemson University teaching storytelling, and a Journalist in Residence at Furman University teaching public speaking and social media strategy. He is also a fellow with the Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Initiative, and a member of the Hearst Diversity leadership team.

When he is not working, Nigel can be found in church, in the kitchen cooking, spending time with his friends or cycling on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

Nigel married his college sweetheart, and are the proud parents of three sons and a rescued black lab named "Shadow," and a rescued German shepherd named, “Charlie.”
