Griffin Hardy

Meteorologist

Griffin Hardy joined the WYFF News 4 weather team in December 2021.  You can watch Griffin’s forecast on Saturday and Sunday evenings at 6 and 11.  He also does weather reporting during the week on the early evening newscasts. With many family ties to the Upstate, Griffin Hardy is thrilled to be a part of the WYFF News 4 weather team. “I’m so excited to be in front of the camera where our audience has some familiar faces in it!” Griffin says. Griffin was born in Atlanta, Georgia and spent most of his childhood growing up in Alpharetta, GA.  He developed a particular interest in severe weather following an F3 tornado that struck Nashville, TN in April 1998.  Griffin’s father was caught downtown during that tornado and, thankfully, remained safe.  But the physics and impacts of strong tornadoes struck a chord with Griffin ever since. Griffin made his television debut in Columbus, MS in September 2016. He then graduated from Mississippi State University in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in professional meteorology, with an emphasis in broadcasting. Griffin began working full-time as a broadcast meteorologist at WJTV 12 in Jackson, Mississippi.  While gaining experience covering numerous severe weather events, Griffin earned his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist distinction from the American Meteorological Society in November 2018. He went on to work at CBS 42 in Birmingham, AL where he covered more extreme weather events, including the most significant to him, the tornado outbreak of March 2021. “We had 6 fatalities in our area near Ohatchee, AL during that outbreak,” Griffin says. “While we were out ahead of that particular tornado warning people over the air, it really hit home how important clear and concise messaging is.” Griffin and his wife, Jennison (a Furman University alum!), live in Greenville, and enjoy hiking, cooking, and traveling together.  Say hi to Griffin if you see him around town!
