BUT THERE ARE PLANS TO START ANOTHER UP SOON. IN UPSTATE MOTHER IS SINGING IN A NATIONAL COMPETITION IN HONOR OF HER SON, WHO WAS KILLED IN JANUARY OF LAST YEAR. TURNS OUT HE WAS AN ORGAN DONOR. KAY DORSEY SAYS HER SON, BJ, WAS KILLED AT THE AGE OF 26, IN BOILING SPRINGS WHEN A CAR HIT HIS MOTORCYCLE AGAIN. BJ WAS AN ORGAN DONOR AND HELPED SAVE THE LIVES OF FOUR DIFFERENT PEOPLE. KAY HAS BEEN IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, COMPETING IN THE TRANSPLANT GAMES OF AMERICA, A FELLOWSHIP AND OLYMPIC STYLE COMPETITION SERIES FEATURING DONORS, RECIPIENTS, AND THE FAMILIES OF DONORS. KAY COMPETED IN LYRICS FOR LIFE, A SINGING COMPETITION. THERE, SHE SAYS, MEETING OTHERS WHO HAVE SIMILAR STORIES HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING PARTS TO SEE. THOSE THAT HAVE, UM, RECEIVED THE GIFT AND HOW THEY ARE, UM, SURVIVING. AND, UM, THEY ARE DOING SO WELL AND DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB OF LIVING THEIR LIFE AND BEING ABLE TO HAVE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THEY MAY NOT HAVE HAD BEFORE. Kaye Dorsey of Boiling Springs is using her talents to keep her son William "BJ" Sigafoos' name alive.BJ was 26 years old when he died in January 2023 after being hit by a car while he was riding his motorcycle. BJ was an organ donor and ultimately helped save the lives of four individuals.Dorsey has been in Birmingham, Alabama, singing her way through to the finals of a vocal competition at the 2024 Transplant Games of America.According to the Transplant Games of America Website:"From July 5-10, 2024, Birmingham will be home to the world’s largest celebration of life - the 2024 Transplant Games of America. Thousands of people from all 50 states and abroad will travel to The Magic City to unite, honor the families who have given the gift of life and raise awareness of organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation. The 2024 Transplant Games will bring together thousands of transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, caregivers, individuals on the waiting list, donation and transplant professionals, supporters, volunteers and spectators for a truly unique and inspiring week. The 2024 Games will feature 20 competitions and more than 60 special events and programs."Dorsey competed in the Lyrics for Life competition in honor of her son. She placed second after the final day of competition Tuesday afternoon.Dorsey said the fellowship and meeting others with similar stories has really touched her while honoring her son. She was sponsored by We Are Sharing Hope SC, the organ and tissue recovery services for the state of SC. See video above for full story.
