ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS, NAMI ONE IN FIVE ADULTS EXPERI ENCES MENTAL ILLNESS. ONE IN SIX CHILDREN AGES 6 TO 17 EXPERIENCES A MENTAL HEALTH DISORDER. IT CAN IMPACT HOW A PERSON THINKS AND FEELS THEIR MOOD AND HOW THEY RELATE TO OTHERS. THERE’S NO SINGLE CALLS FOR MENTAL ILLNESS, A STRESSFUL JOB OR HOME LIFE, TRAUMATIC LIFE EVENTS AND BIOLOGICAL FACTORS, OR CHEMICAL IMBALANCES IN THE BRAIN CAN PLAY A ROLE. EACH PERSON WILL HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES. EVEN PEOPLE WITH THE SAME DIAGNOSIS AND THE TREATMENTS VARY. THAT’S WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO TALK ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. Millions of Americans are affected by mental illness, as many as 1 in 5 adults according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
