>> THIS IS A WYFF 4 EDITORIAL. SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD IS PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER JOHN HUMPHRIES. >> OF THE WIFE OF FOUR IS CELEBRATING A MILESTONE IN A FEW DAYS. THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF OUR CHRONICLE PROGRAMS, WHICH AIR QUARTERLY. WE ARE AIRING OUR NEXT CHRONICLE ON WEDNESDAY. IT IS CALLED "10 YEARS OF CHRONICLE" AND GIVES US A LOOK BACK AT SOME OF THE INCREDIBLE STORIES WE’VE TOLD OVER THE PAST DECADE. OUR FIRST PROGRAM BACK IN 2009 WAS "CHRONICLE: PAUL’S GIFT" WHICH FOLLOWED THE PROCESS OF LIFE SAVING ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION, FROM THE FAMILY’S DECISION TO DONATE, TO THE RECIPIENTS’ LIFE SAVING SURGERY AND ULTIMATELY, TO A MEETING BETWEEN THE DONOR FAMILY AND RECIPIENTS. WE GOT TO KNOW THE FAMILIES INVOLVED AND FOLLOWED THEM FOR MONTHS THROUGH THEIR JOURNEY. SINCE THEN WE’VE LOOKED AT B ISSUES LIKE THE OPIOID CRISIS, TOLD THROUGH ITS IMPACT N FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITIES. WE ALSO LOOKED AT THE IMPACT OF BOEING’S DECISION TO LOCATE A NEW PLANT ON THE EAST COAST, RIGHT HERE IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND WE INVESTIGATED THE HUMAN IMPACT OF THE ISSUE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABUSE. WE HAVE ALSO TOLD THE STORIES OF SOME VERY INTERESTING PEOPLE. WE LOOKED AT THE BASEBALL CAREER OF SHOELESS JOE JACKSON, A HERO HERE IN HIS HOMETOWN...BUT BANNED FROM BASEBALL FOR HIS ASSOCIATION WITH THE SO-CALLED BLACK SOX SCANDAL. YOU HEARD THE DETAILS OF THE CAROLINA PEOPLE WHO DON’T THE SPORT OF NASCAR FROM ITS POST-WORLD WAR II ROOTS TO THE BIG BUSINESS IT IS TODAY. AND IN THE "COST OF FREEDOM" WE HONORED OUR VETERANS WHO HAVE GIVEN SO MUCH FOR THE FREEDOM WE ALL ENJOY. AND IN TEN YEARS WE TRAVELED THOUSANDS OF MILES TO TAKE YOU TO SOME INCREDIBLE PLACES. WE TOOK A LONG RIDE ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY TO CELEBRATE T ROADWAYS 75TH ANNIVERSARY, AND SOME BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. WE TOOK INSIDE THE HUGE ENTERPRISE THAT IS THE BALTIMORE ESTATE, TO SEE WHAT IT TAKES TO RUN AMERICA’S LARGEST PRIVATE HOME YEAR ROUND. AND WE TOOK YOU FOR A RIDE IN SKY 4 TO SEE THE STORY OF SOUTH CAROLINA FROM MOUNTAINS TO THE COASTAL PLAIN. WE. “10 Years of Chronicle “ looks back at the people, places and issues we have reported over the first ten years of our Chronicle program. From our 27 Chronicle programs since the first in the Spring of 2009, we selected these memorable stories.

Part 1

Our first program in 2009, “Chronicle: Paul’s Gift,” followed the process of organ and tissue donation from the donor family to the individuals who received the life-saving transplant surgery. See how one wife made the decision donate her husband’s organs and meet the people who received this gift.

Also, from “Chronicle: State of Addiction, how the Upstate has become a drug pipeline for opioid trafficking.

Part 2

First, from “Chronicle: Lake Hartwell,” a look at the economic and recreational impact of this lake which sits on the South Carolina-Georgia state line.

Boeing’s decision to locate an airplane assembly plant in South Carolina has had a tremendous impact on the state. From “Chronicle: Landing Boeing,” a story of Boeing’s impact on its Seattle base.

From “Chronicle: Carolina Made,” how the products made here have found a client base around the world.

The heart of a thriving downtown can be determined by the vibrancy of its Main Street. Here is the story of 4 cities in our region: Greenville, Spartanburg, Asheville and Anderson.

Part 3

In this segment, we highlight several investigations done by our Chronicle team.

From “WYFF News 4 Investigates: 23 Seconds in Townville,” an examination of what led to a teenager opening fire on students and teachers at an Upstate school.

Then, we investigate the personal impact of the problem of domestic abuse and violence as we hear from a victim who lost her daughter and almost lost her own life to violence. This story is from “Chronicle: Living in Fear.”

In “Chronicle: The State of Education,” we traveled to one of the poorest school districts in the state to look at the needs of South Carolina’s educational system.

And from our second Chronicle to deal with the personal and community impact of opioids and other drugs, we report on what’s leading to a growing number of overdose deaths in our area.

Part 4

Our Chronicle stories are best told by interesting people. In this segment we have 3 examples.

First, we look at the legacy of one of the greatest players in professional baseball history, Shoeless Joe Jackson.

And, from “Chronicle: Racing in the Carolinas,” we introduce you to some of the interesting Carolina characters who have shaped the sport of NASCAR.

On the 20th anniversary of the Atlanta Olympic Games, we introduce you to a western North Carolina man who was part of the 96 American team.

Part 5

Who does a man known as America’s Pastor turn to for spiritual discussions? From “Chronicle: Billy Graham,” we introduce you to the famous evangelist’s own pastor.

They made sacrifices for our freedom. We tell the stories of military veterans who paid the price in “Chronicle: The Cost of Freedom.”

It was a dark time in the history of our country, but on the 150th

anniversary of the end of the Civil War, we tell some of the Carolina stories of this war of brother against brother.

Part 6

What does it take to run America’s largest private home over the course of a year? We give you a behind the scenes look in “Chronicle: Biltmore.”

And from “Chronicle: Home for the Holidays,” we take you to a Carolina town has its own version of dressing for Christmas.

Part 7

We have traveled thousands of miles to tell our Chronicle stories. This segment is a look at two of those journeys.

We take you on an Appalachian journey on the occasion of the 75th

anniversary of the 469 mile Blue Ridge Parkway.

Then, from “Chronicle: South Carolina from Above,” a unique view of the beauty of the Palmetto State as we ride in Sky 4 from the mountains to the coastal plain.
