Terrelle Pryor in stable condition after being stabbed at Pittsburgh apartment complex, charges filed
NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was stabbed in Pittsburgh overnight at the Heinz Lofts apartment complex.
He is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
After consulting with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, Pittsburgh police have arrested two people they said were "believed to be mutual combatants in this incident" and said a woman was also injured during the altercation.
Shalaya Briston, 24, of Munhall, was arrested and has been charged with criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
In addition, police said they have arrested Pryor. He faces a charge of simple assault.
Pryor was taken to a hospital by Briston and two witnesses, according to the criminal complaint. Those witnesses told investigators the pair got into a fight that they attempted to break up.
Court documents allege Pryor knocked one of the witnesses to the ground, and also say Pryor and Briston continued to fight inside the apartment before he ran out holding his chest.
According to the criminal complaint, police found trail of blood from his apartment on the fourth floor to his car parked in the garage.
An agent for Pryor said he is expected to make a full recovery. He did not comment on the charge of simple assault.
Pryor has played for the Raiders, Browns, Redskins, Jets and Bills. He was released by the Jaguars earlier this year and is currently a free agent.
Pryor was the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2008 to 2010, winning the Big Ten Championship twice.
He is a native of Jeannette, Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh's Action News 4 reporter talked to Roy Hall, Pryor's former football coach, who described him as "a good kid" and said he was devastated when he first heard Pryor was in critical condition.
"He was the number one player in the country. He was a great player, great teammate, a great leader," Hall said.
