Pogopalooza returns: Pittsburgh hosts pogo sticking world championships for 7th straight year
You might say Pittsburgh is reaching new heights this weekend.
The city is playing host to Pogopalooza, the pogo sticking world championships, for a seventh consecutive year, and things got wild Friday as extreme athletes took their shot at a world record.
Pogopalooza is an event unlike any other, bringing the best extreme pogo athletes from across the world to Pittsburgh.
The free event took over Market Square Downtown for a high jump competition Friday, with athletes trying to jump over a high bar beginning at 7 1/2 feet with the hopes of breaking the Guinness World Record height of 12 feet.
Competitors wowed the crowd, also performing flips and tricks, as they all battle for gold across a weekend of events. Watch some of those crowd reactions in the video player above.
The competition continues Saturday with freestyle qualifiers in Wilkinsburg, where the athletes will attempt tricks 10 feet in the air. On Sunday, the top 10 qualifiers will go for the gold in the championship event.
