Body of teen swimmer recovered from Lake Wylie, police say

TEGA CAY, S.C. — The body of a 16-year-old swimmer was recovered Monday afternoon from Lake Wylie, Tega Cay police said.

Crews were called to Pitcairn Park on Triton Drive at about 4 p.m. to look for a swimmer who was in distress and missing.

The York County Coroner’s Office is in charge of the investigation. They identified the victim as 16-year-old Logan Gurley from Fort Mill.

The coroner said Gurley drowned while swimming with friends.

No additional details have been made available.

Tega Cay Mayor Chris Gray told Channel 9 he created a GoFundMe with Councilman Tom Hyslip to help Gurley’s family with expenses.

Gray said Gurley played basketball with his son at Fort Mill High School and was an “outstanding” athlete. He said the two were good friends.

The mayor asked the community for their support and prayers for the family and for the Fort Mill High community.
