NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Today is a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY as the remnants of Beryl bring us the risk for some strong thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening.

Some areas west of I-65 have already been drenched with rainfall this morning, but most of the big weather issues have stayed well off to our northwest.

As we head into the afternoon the remnants of Beryl will throw some scattered showers and storms in our direction. There will be some good dry gaps within these thunderstorms, so we are not expecting an all-day steady soaker. That being said, any thunderstorm that develops today could produce very heavy rain, gusty winds and even a spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out as well.

The window for severe weather looks to be between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. today.

A couple of showers will linger tonight and into tomorrow morning with lows dropping into the 70s.

BREAK FROM THE HEAT

We’ll get a much needed, but brief, break from the heat on Wednesday. Temperatures will stall out in the 80s for the afternoon and the humidity will be much more bearable throughout the day. As far as rain chances are concerned, a shower will linger through the morning hours but many of us will see clearing in the afternoon.

HEAT RETURNS QUICKLY

Temperatures are right back in the 90s on Thursday with increasing humidity in the afternoon. We’ll see a few clouds, but plenty of sunshine otherwise.

Highs on Friday push into the mid 90s with a heat index near 100° under a partly cloudy sky.

Three more FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS are in effect for Saturday, Sunday and Monday with highs in the upper 90s and heat index values exceeding 105°. All three of those days will come with a few afternoon clouds, but mostly plenty of sunshine
