NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man died and four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night on Interstate 40 near the White Bridge Road exit in West Nashville, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

A Honda CRV and Dodge Ram pickup crashed at about 7:15 p.m. The Honda driver, Jacabo Hernandez, 29, of Elm Hill Pike, was ejected and died at the scene, police said. His passengers, a 28-year-old woman and 18-month-old boy had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Hernandez was driving east on I-40 when he lost control of the vehicle in heavy rain. The Honda hit the center median wall and eventually stopped in a driving lane. Hernandez climbed into the back seat to check on the child, who was in a car seat, according to police, when the Honda was hit from behind by the truck.

Police said Hernandez was ejected from the back window.

The pickup driver was not injured, but his passengers, a woman and a 15-year-old boy, had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the crash was caused due to the Honda failing to maintain its lane. The interstate reopened just before 10 p.m.
