Interstate 40 East in West Nashville reopens after fatal crash
Police reported the roll-over crash occurred at 7:21 p.m.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Update: A man died and four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night on Interstate 40 near the White Bridge Road exit in West Nashville, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Previous: Interstate 40 East was closed for nearly three hours after a fatal crash near the Briley Parkway exit.
One vehicle appeared to hydroplane on the wet interstate just after 7:15 p.m. The car crashed into the inside wall and spun into the middle of the interstate. A couple of minutes later, a car attempted to avoid the stalled car appeared to have hydroplaned and crashed into the stopped car.
Metro Nashville Police said the wreck occurred at 7:21 p.m. at mile marker 203.6. Police confirmed the accident was fatal, but did not provide additional details.
The interstate reopened just before 10 p.m. A detour had been set up by police and TDOT at the Charlotte Pike exit.
