MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Firefighters rescued a woman and a dog during an apartment fire in Murfreesboro late Thursday night.

The woman, who requires a wheelchair, lived in the apartment next-door, and was pulled from the home, while smoke poured into her apartment.

Everyone inside the Park Place apartment on North Maple Street that caught fire, escaped on their own, authorities said.

“I just happened to look out my window and I saw this red glow,” Vanessa McGill, the daughter of the woman who was rescued, said. “I just ran outside, I was calling for the neighbors. It was like really scary because I didn’t know if they were inside or not.”

The apartment that caught fire suffered serious damage and cannot be lived in. Those affected will stay elsewhere with family members.

“It puts things into perspective, it makes you appreciate the people you have in your life, material things they can be replaced but lives cannot be,” Eric McGill, Vanessa’s brother, said.

The two adjacent units have smoke damage, but the residents can continue to live there.

The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and Marshal’s Office are investigating what caused the fire.
