HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A death investigation is underway after human remains were found near Vietnam Veterans Boulevard in Hendersonville on Thursday, according to police.

Police said officers began investigating after a TDOT subcontract worker discovered the remains in a small wood line near Vietnam Veterans Blvd. and New Shackle Island Road.

The worker was picking up trash along the roadway at the time of discovery.

“The deceased is a white female, approximately 4′9, 105 lbs, with brown hair,” police said. “The cause of death and identity of the victim are still under investigation and pending autopsy report.”

Jamie Concannon lives just a block away and says she always walks on a path by Costco. So, she couldn’t believe it when she heard what had been found in the area.

“That’s kind of crazy - like a body? That’s just wild to me,” Concannon said.

She says she’s left with a lot of unanswered questions.

“I don’t know if someone dropped it off there or if the person just collapsed there,” Concannon said.

She says she’s always felt safe in the four years she’s lived here and says this doesn’t change that.

“I have friends that have husbands that are police officers that say that the neighborhood is very safe so it’s kind of shocking to hear for Hendersonville,” Concannon said.
