NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Nashville Predators are making big moves as the National Hockey League’s free agency period is underway.

New general manager Barry Trotz doesn’t seem to be wasting time to put Nashville back into a power position in the NHL after multiple key signings on Monday.

For starters, Trotz and the Preds kept their star goalie and Pekka Rinne’s replacement Juuse Saros out of free agency by way of signing him to an eight-year, $61.92 million contract.

Next came some big goal-scoring names. The Preds are bringing forward Steven Stamkos to town on a four-year, $32 million contract. Stamkos is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion and scored 40 goals last season.

To keep their opponents’ nets filled with Predators-scoring pucks, Nashville also signed forward Jonathan Marchessault to a five-year, $27.5 million contract. Marchessault is also a Stanley Cup Champion and scored 42 goals in the 2023-24 NHL season.

Trotz and company are set to talk about the first day of free agency and all of their superstar signings on Monday afternoon.
