Gretchen Walsh qualifies for third event for 2024 Olympics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Nashville’s Gretchen Walsh qualified for her third event in the Olympics after finishing second in the 50m freestyle on the final day of the U.S. Olympics Swim Trial in Indianapolis.

Walsh set a world record in the 200m butterfly semifinals before winning the trials. She will also be competing in the 4x100 freestyle relay.

Walsh finished behind Simone Manuel in Sunday’s 50m finals after having the fastest time in Saturday’s semifinals. Walsh finished the race in 24.15 seconds, 0.02 behind Manuel.

Walsh will be swimming in the Olympics with her older sister Alex. Alex Walsh qualified in the 200m intermediate medley race, which she won a silver medal in Tokyo.
