First heat wave of the year expected this weekend
The heat index is expected to be in the triple digits.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Dangerously hot temperatures will plague the Mid State this weekend, creating our first heat wave of the year.
Beginning Thursday, high temperatures will climb into the 90s and stay there well into next week.
By the weekend, we can expect dangerous heat as temperatures soar well above average into the mid to upper 90s with heat index values reaching the 100s. Limiting time outdoors in conditions like this is important, as the body is more susceptible to heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Some ways to combat the heat are to wear light, loose clothing, drink plenty of water, and take breaks from the sun in the shade or inside with the A/C on.
To be considered a heat wave, temperatures must exceed 90º for three or more days in a row.
