UT Chattanooga student selected to U.S. Olympic team

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WSMV) - A student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will not only be representing her school but her country as well at the 2024 Olympics.

“Introducing Olivia the Olympian,” UTC touted.

Senior Olivia Reeves will be joining the United States Olympic weightlifting team. A native of Hixson and a sociology major, Reeves will represent the U.S. in Paris.

“Her remarkable achievements include a best snatch of 118 kg (260 lbs) and a best clean and jerk of 150 kg (331 lbs). She set these personal records while winning gold over China and North Korea at her last qualifier competition in Thailand,” UTC said.

UTC said she is looking to become the first currently enrolled student to participate in the Olympic Games and is believed to be the first ever in UTC history to be selected for an Olympic team.

“It’s exciting and I’m coming to the realization that it’s actually happening. It’s real,” Reeves shared.
