Hendersonville native Josef Newgarden wins Indy 500 for second straight year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Hendersonville native Josef Newgarden has won the Indianapolis 500 for the second year in a row.
Newgarden, who led many laps, was in second to start the final lap. He passed Pato O’Ward in the final stretch to win his second Indy 500 in back-to-back years.
Just like last year, Newgarden stopped his Chevrolet-powered car on the track and climbed through a hole in the fence to celebrate with fans in the grandstands.
“I love this crowd. I’ve got to always go in the crowd if we win here, I am always doing that,” Newgarden said.
The Tennessean becomes the first driver in 22 years to win back-to-back Indy 500s.
WSMV4 talked to Newgarden last year after he won his first in 2023. You can watch that interview here.
