5-year-old with special medical needs has dream wish come true

In April a Cumberland County boy with a rare genetic disease got to vacation with his family at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.

Elijah Goins suffers from congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which causes his bones to develop like he's a 10-year-old boy.

Elijah was diagnosed at the age of two. He has had two hip operations in his lifetime and takes medication daily to stay alive.

"It also caused him to not produce the cortisol that his body needs to live," said Ashley Goins, Elijah's mother. "He currently takes treatments three times a day of a synthetic form of the cortisol that helps him to live."

Elijah's parents reached out to the Kid's Wish Network to help take his mind off the operations and medical treatments. His wish came true.

A five-day trip to Florida paid for by the Kid's Wish Network gave Elijah the chance to see many attractions including Magic Kingdom.

"Universal Studios, Lego Land, Disney Land, Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom and Lego Land," Elijah said naming the places he explored.

Elijah learned about the surprise at his birthday party.

Following the trip, Elijah told WRAL News his favorite part was the "crazy rides."

The trip marked Elijah's first time on an airplane. He even got a chance to chat with the pilot.
