Blood and platelet donors 'critically needed,' Red Cross says
Blood and platelet donors are critically needed right now, according to the Red Cross.
The Red Cross said donors of all blood types are in demand, especially those with type O blood and donors giving platelets.
Book a time to give blood or platelets by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
The Red Cross has teamed up with Universal Pictures for the release of TWISTERS to help avoid a summer blood shortage. All who come to give blood or platelets July 1-31 will get a Fandango Movie Ticket by email. Those who come to give blood in July will also automatically be entered for a chance to win a 2025 Ram 1500 Big Horn. Go to RedCrossBlood.org/Twisters for more details.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive.
