Much to my dismay, I’m not the type of person that can fall asleep anywhere. I wish. But I’m not kidding when I say that every. Single. Time. I lie down on our Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress, I’m out like a light.

The biggest selling point for me is the temperature control; it’s designed with a layer of breathable bamboo and wool on top, meaning you never wake up feeling hot or sweaty, and with studies showing that you sleep better in cooler environments, you’re likely to rack up more time in deep and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep – the most restorative kinds.

I’m a big fan of the added height, too. It’s 31cm deep, compared to circa 20cm for most standard mattresses; this did mean we were forced to invest in new bed sheets, but I’m not complaining. It’s worth noting that the mattress will also appear higher on your bed frame, so if that’s something that could bug you, I’d recommend going up a duvet size so that you have more cover to conceal each side.

As for price, at £1394 for a king size, it’s certainly not cheap, but is it worth it? Absolutely. For me, sleep is an investment, and judging by the recovery stats on my WHOOP, it’s paying off. Here’s everything you need to know.

Is the Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress comfortable?

If you don’t mind a firmer form of comfortable, absolutely. It’s a level up from the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress, with eleven layers of Simba’s signature sleep tech fabric compared to seven in the Simba Hybrid Pro, plus an additional layer of micro springs (three compared to two on the Pro mattress), designed to encourage pressure relief and provide optimum support.

As mentioned, the extra layers of fabric and springs does mean the Luxe is considerably taller than the Pro, so it may not feel as safe for children, but the mattress is built with edge-to-edge support with a spring base that limits the chances of you rolling off at the sides. Yep, they really have thought of everything.

Comfort-wise, I’ve also tried the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress and the most noticeable difference for me is that the Simba Hybrid Luxe is considerably bouncier, while I sink deeper into the mattress than I do on the Pro.

The Luxe is also made with open structure Simbatex® foam with enhanced airflow, so no matter how deep you mould into the mattress, you’ll never overheat.

How does the Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress arrive?

It comes vacuum-packed and rolled into a box, which is easily transported with slots for holding. My one caveat is that the mattress is quite heavy, so lifting it is a two-man job (particularly if you’re carrying it upstairs), but once you open the box and unroll it, all you need to do is cut the plastic and watch it rise.

Simba recommends leaving it for three-six hours before using, adding that it may take up to 72 hours to expand entirely. I can attest that, despite sleeping on it for three nights, the mattress looked taller after said 72 hours.

Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress review: Verdict

Both the Simba Hybrid Pro and the Hybrid Luxe are genuinely the comfiest mattresses I’ve ever tried, but if you have the money – and you prefer a bouncier bed, the Hybrid Luxe is the one for you.

The extra layers of springs and fabric absolutely do make a difference – its bouncier, but also considerably comfier. After using it for six months, I spent a night in our guest bedroom on the Simba Hybrid Pro, and it felt both noticeably firmer and slower to contour to my body shape as I sank into the mattress compared to the Simba Hybrid Luxe. I was lucky enough to have been sent the mattress to review, but I honestly believe that it’s an investment worth making.

Both mattresses are genuinely the most comfortable I’ve ever tried, but if you have the money – and you prefer a bouncier bed, you have my word that the Luxe is worth investing in.
