We've been begging for sunnier days for months but many of us are already complaining about how uncomfortable a heatwave can be. If you struggle to get comfortable when the mercury rises, chances are your mini-me is even more cranky about the hot weather. But while it's tempting to stay at home all day, babies and toddlers need fresh air and exercise too!

So, how do you keep your little people cool in the warmer months? Aside from lobbying your local MP to take urgent measures against the impact of climate change, there are some short-term solutions to keeping your hot tots cool.

According to the NHS, your baby will sleep most comfortably in a room temperature between 16C and 20C. They also recommend that little people should be kept out of direct sunlight and avoid the hottest parts of the day between 11am-3pm.

However, if you can't avoid leaving the house during a heatwave, portable fans can provide a great temporary solution to hot weather woes. Keep scrolling for our pick of the best pram fans to shop now.

What to look for in a good pram fan

When the temperature soars we can all agree that almost any device that emits cold air is a winner! But when it comes to keeping your little people cool, there are a few points worth considering before you start shopping for stroller fans:

Safety

Opt for a sturdy and well made fan that promotes good airflow without risking tiny hands and fingers. All of the fans on our list are considered safe to use for babies and small children, but if you choose to go off-list then make sure you shop for a fan with minimal exposed components, rounded blades and no sharp edges.

Secure

A safe mounting system should also be paramount, so choose a fan that comes with a clip to attach it to your buggy or flexible wrapping legs, and never leave your child unattended near a fan.

Power

Always shop for a portable fan with rechargeable batteries or a USB charging cable so they can be safely charged. Desk fans with long cables can pose a risk to smaller children so should be used with caution.

Price

While we've included a range of price points for all parents, picking a good quality product means your fan will last longer, so it's better for the planet and your pocket in the long run.

Noise

It makes sense to opt for a quiet fan to minimise disturbance, but some babies actually benefit from white noise and may find the gentle whir of a fan to be soothing.
