Video: America's first Black magician leads the way for new generation of Black magicians

Richard potter was The most famous black man in America in the 1820s and the 1830s. Mhm, mm hmm, mm hmm. He was a ventriloquist and magician, a dramatic performer, a singer. He did some song and dance routines. Um He even had fire eating tricks as part of his magic show. He didn't remain famous in our history because he moved before. There were photographs before. There were any kinds of ways of recording what he did. Mhm. There's a full time african american magician. I will attend magic conferences and meetings and I did not see anyone like me. Or you would see maybe three people like me at a convention where there's 2000 people more. Some of the things that we go through even today that he had to go through back in his time. Mm hmm. There has not been a major american celebrity magician right to this day, actually, I think the first one, I mean the only one is richard potter because his success during this day. And how many years ago with was that there's more black magicians out there. And part of that is due to technology, the internet
