Graham, a New Hampshire veteran and former business owner, shares journey from homelessness to hope

If someone had told me six years ago that I was gonna wind up homeless, I wouldn't believe them. I had my own house. I had my own business. Things just happen in your life sometimes. And for me, I got stomach cancer and I was sick and I had stopped working and I got further and further behind on bills. And my, my mom started having short term memory problems and that she needed to be in the 24 7 facility. And the only way to do that uh was we had to sell the property to go ahead and do that. The next thing I know I was homeless, nobody sees that you really are somebody, you know, when you're used to having and used to being able to do and if you have problems, you can just kind of throw money at it. And that part of your life comes to an end. I it's uh it's devastating. I think most people have *** misconception that, that people that are homeless, wanna be homeless, but it's really not that way at all. Being homeless is *** condition that doesn't make you who you are. And I, I feel very fortunate, um, that I made it, um, you know, through the low spots and I got emotional when I think back about it, it actually made me *** better person. It's just made me see myself differently. It's made me see the whole world differently. I see the homeless in *** much different way than the way I did. I understand that. That's, it's more than just saying I give up. It's more than just circumstance and it is definitely something that is, is out of our control most times.
