A Manchester man is being held in preventive detention after being accused of assaulting a 2-year-old boy. Police responded to a report of suspected child abuse at Elliot Hospital on July 2. The child had a serious but non-life-threatening head injury and swollen eyes. According to police, the injuries occurred while the child was in the care of Ryan Sanchez Montanez. He has been charged with felony second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.Sanchez Montanez was already out on bail for another assault involving a different child under the age of 13, police said. His court hearing is scheduled for July 11 at Manchester Circuit Court.
